Old Guard GOP Move To Cut Cruz Off At The Knees
In a move that would make Benedict Arnold proud, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Texas Senator Jon Cornyn are attempting to garner Republican votes to SUPPORT THE DEMOCRATS in defeating Republican Senator Ted Cruz’s efforts to defund Obamacare.
Breitbart quotes a source in Congress as saying,
“Right now in the Senate, Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn are actively whipping Senators to shut down debate on the House continuing resolution so that Harry Reid can gut it with just 51 votes. Unbelievably, they actually are leading the fight to fully fund Obamacare.“
According to McConnell, Cornyn, Karl Rove and others of their ilk, Ted Cruz and the rest of the “Tea Party” guys need to forget what their constituents sent them to Washington to do. Forget that the people back home are telling them, “We sent you to DC to fight for us to your last breath; Even if that means going against other Republicans.”
Their justification? “That’s just not how things are done, here.” Don’t believe me? Tell ’em, Karl.
There’s no way Karl Rove believes what he just said. There is NO WAY Republicans didn’t see this coming. What Karl meant was that Ted Cruz didn’t bow before the Old Guard and say, “Mother may I?”. Which, by the way, is precisely what the people who elected him sent him there to do.
Ignoring constituents and “going along to get along” is how things have been done in DC for a very long time. Tea Party candidates are elected on a platform to break that cycle. The Tea Party feels that “the old ways of doing things” are a HUGE part of the problem. That’s how we got in this sorry state, to begin with. Men like Ted Cruz, Jeff Sessions and Mike Lee are doing exactly what the people who elected them have told them to do. By the way, they were told to do this, knowing full well there was a low likelihood of success. There’s not nearly as much shame in defeat as there is in NOT taking a stand for the very people that sent you to fight for them.
2014, I predict, will be “The Year of the Cull”. Those Republicans that refuse to stand up for their own electorate will be culled from both houses. The Karl Roves and John McCains truly believe that it will be the Tea Party that suffers for their unwillingness to yield. Which shows just how little they pay attention. Every single time someone has tried to marginalize the Tea Party, the Tea Party grew even stronger and their ranks swelled even more.
Many Americans feel that the “Status Quo” is unacceptable…And so are those that would keep the status quo going. In 2014, the Republican Party will either undergo a serious housecleaning OR they will go the way of the Whigs.
