Wake Up, O Sleeping Giant

Essay by Jelena Anderson

The power of the Church was undeniable after the 2016 US presidential election. For too many years, Christians had stayed at home on election night for lack of a “good option” and while many were not convinced that Trump was the right choice, it had become very clear, that the Democratic Party and the Liberal Left under the Obama Administration had taken our country into a direction opposing the things of God.

The anti-Israel stance the Obama Administration took, gay marriage, transgender bathroom issues are just a few examples of going against the Word of God.

It took lots of prayer and repentance from Believers as well as a divine intervention from God, to put President Trump in office and give our nation a short reprieve.

Now more than ever the Church needs to step up and take back what the enemy has stolen. This is not a time to go back to sleep, but to be alert, to watch and pray and to intercede on behalf of our country and our president who is under constant attack from the left as well as the right.

Let us not waste the time that has been given to us, this chance to make a difference and to put God first again. Many seem to think that we have four years, maybe even eight, but do we really?

Consider the opposition President Trump is facing right now with the Republican Party in charge of everything. What do you think will happen after midterm elections if the Democrats can win some of it back? Do you still think we have four years? Eight even?

Either way, what we do have is a window of opportunity and we can’t miss it! The time is now for the Church to wake up and stay awake, stay alert and watchful and continue to pray for our nation, peace for Jerusalem and the will of God to be done.

We hear a lot about revivals breaking out and while that is wonderful and we definitely need it, we also need an awakening!

How many churches, including megachurches, are filled with people, but are dead inside? Is the Holy Spirit really flowing through those services? Is the presence of God really there? Or are there just a lot of bodies warming pews, while playing church without a clue that there is no life in their church? The Church itself appears still mostly asleep.

In Acts 20:9 we read “And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.” (KJV).

Church, the window is open! Don’t sit in the window asleep!

Over the last few weeks we have heard of one terror attack after another. The world is afraid, even while some political leaders are trying to convince us that there is no reason to fear. That’s just a little hard to believe when terrorists seek out soft targets, like the Ariana Grande concert, that was visited mainly by young girls.

And while we mourn the victims of these attacks, news breaks about new attacks. It’s almost as if we can’t catch our breath and people become more and more nervous. Tensions are rising.

On top of terror threats we also deal with the domestic issues and insanities like Kathy Griffin and her atrocious picture of the severed bloody Trump head.

If you don’t understand that what we are dealing with is demonic, then you need to wake up!

So what does that mean?

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12 KJV.

Yes, we are dealing with people, mindsets, ideologies and the results of their actions but they are motivated by principalities and powers, by the demonic, and most of them may not even know it.

That is why it is so important for the Church to wake up and take her position, to watch and pray, to fight and reclaim the territory that the enemy has stolen from us.

We as the Church have become so passive and intimidated by the tactics of the enemy that it is all we can do to stand there and take the beating so to speak and hope that we won’t lose any more ground in the process.

The Church seems to have forgotten the power and authority that has been given to us: “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Luke 10:19 KJV.

Read that again: it says over ALL the power of the enemy! And just in case you were wondering, the enemy know this better than you do, which is why he is trying to intimidate and deceive you, because how could you ever walk in your  power and authority if you don’t even know you have it?

Why do you think it is always the Church that gets attacked? Why does the LGTB community for example not attack Islam with its harsh laws against homosexuality (punishable by death), but comes against the Christian Church instead, where they simply face the truth that they walk in sin – just like the rest of us – but they are still loved.

It’s because the enemy knows if he can keep us on the defense, we won’t even try to go on the offense and expand the Kingdom of God on earth.

There is a certain verse in the Bible that many Believers, myself included, have interpreted the wrong way: “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18 KJV.

This scripture oftentimes was quoted to me in times of trials and tribulations to encourage me that no matter what the enemy was throwing at me, he would not prevail against me.  And while that is certainly true, it is not necessarily what this verse means.

When was the last time the enemy attacked you with the gates of hell? That’s not really how it works, is it?

Gates are meant to keep something out so what do you think the gates of hell are supposed to keep out?

Satan has been advancing his kingdom of darkness and we, the Church, have been giving up ground. We have been on the retreat and on the defense but it is time for the Church, the Body of Christ, to wake up again and to start advancing the Kingdom of God on this earth and to take back what the enemy has stolen from us, because when we move forward and take ground for God, not even the gates of hell can stop us!

But as long as we keep fighting amongst each other, the enemy is still beating us because a divided house cannot stand!

As long as we have denominations declaring that being gay is ok in the eyes of God and even promote gay pastors, just as an example, we have a problem in the Church. We have to come back to our first love. We have to come back to what we can agree on and be united in it.

So pray for the Church. Pray for our nation. Pray for President Trump. Pray for Revival, but also pray for eyes and ears to be opened and for an awakening not just in our churches, but all across our country and the world.
